GOD IS OUR REFUGE
Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed and, though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacles of the most high.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved.
God shall help her, and that right early.
The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Come; behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder;
He burneth the chariot in fire.
Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge

COMMUNION LITANY
Introduction by the Minister.
Let us pray.
Lord, if we have forgotten Thee in the distractions of the workday world and lost the sense of Thy presence in the crowded hours of our days:
May we remember Thee , O Lord.
If we have forsaken Thine altars and turned our hearts for worship and our lips from praise:
May we remember Thee, O Lord.
If we have withheld more than is meet and kept for ourselves what we should have given away:
May we remember Thee, O Lord.
If Thy service has made demands upon us which we have been slow to grant and the tasks of Thy kingdom have find us reluctant to assume them:
May we remember Thee, O Lord.
If we have looked only upon our own things and not upon the things of others and have so shortened our vision that we could not see the white fields of the world ready to harvest:
1 Hear what God the Lord hath spoken: O my people , faint and few, Comfortless, afflicted, broken, Fair abodes I build for you. Scenes of heartfelt tribulation Shall no more perplex thy ways: Ye shall name thy walls “Salvation”, And thy gates shall all be “Praise”.
2 There, like streams that feed the garden, Pleasures without end shall flow, For the Lord thy faith rewarding, All his bounty shall bestow. Still in undisturbed possession, Peace and righteousness shall reign: Never shall thee feel oppression, Hear the voice of war again.
|
O Lord, as we sit together in the gracious fellowship of this communion hour, with hearts that are one in aspiration and in hope, help us to recall that Thou has said:
“This do in remembrance of me.”
As we search our hearts, that we may worthily partake of these emblems of the eternal love, hallowed by the devotion of the ages, may we with one accord accept the Master’s commandment:
“This do in remembrance of me.”
A SCRIPTURAL CONFESSION OF FAITH
God is a Spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. God is light and in him is no darkness at all. God is love and everyone that loveth is begotten of God and knoweth God. Love never faileth, and there is no fear in love, but perfect love casteth out fear. So then we are debtors not to the flesh to live after the flesh, but we received the spirit of adoption whereby we cry Abba, father. Being, therefore always of good courage, we walk by faith, not by sight, and we make it our aim to be well pleasing unto him. For we know that to them that love God, all things work together for good. Amen

“God, Her Everlasting Light”
3 Ye, no more thy suns descending, Waning moons no more shall see; But thy grief’s forever ending, Find eternal noon in me; God shall rise, and, shining o’er you, Change to day the gloom of night; He, the Lord, shall be your glory, God, your everlasting light.

God, Her Everlasting Light |
Hear what God the Lord hath spoken:
O my people , faint and few,
Comfortless, afflicted, broken,
Fair Abodes I build for you.
Scenes of heartfelt tribulation
Shall no more perplex your ways:
You shall name your walls “Salvation”,
And your gates shall all be “Praise”.
There. Like streams that feed the garden,
Pleasures without end shall flow,
For the Lord your faith rewarding,
All his bounty shall bestow.
Still in undisturbed possession,
Peace and righteousness shall reign:
Never shall you feel oppression,
Hear the voice of war again.
Ye, no more your suns descending,
Waning moons no more shall see;
But your griefs forever ending,
Find eternal noon in me;
“Grateful Remembrance”
The Church Immovable |
4 When to the cross I turn my eyes, And rest on Calvary, O Lamb of God, my Sacrifice, I must remember thee! 5 Remember thee and all thy pains, And all thy love to me; Yea, while a breath, a pulse remains, I will remember thee! 6 And when these failing lips grow dumb, And mind and memory flee, When thou shalt in thy kingdom come, Jesus, remember me!
|
1 According to thy gracious word, In meek humility, This will I do, my dying Lord, I will remember thee! 2 Thy body broken for my sake, My bread from heaven shall be; Thy testimonial cup I take, And thus remember thee! 3 Gethsemane can I forget? Or there thy conflict see, Thine agony and bloody sweat, And not remember thee?

“The Church Immovable”
1 O where are kings and empires now, Of old that went and came? But, Lord, thy Church is praying yet, A thousand years the same. 2 We make her goodly battlements, And her foundations strong; We hear within the solemn voice Of her unending song. 3 For not like kingdoms of the world Thy holy Church, O God! Though earthquake shocks are threatening her, And tempests are abroad; 4 Unshaken as eternal hills, Immovable she stands, A mountain that shall fill the earth, A house not made by hands. Page 6
