The food shelf attendance has more than doubled since this time last year. In May 2007 we had in the neighborhood of 20 families visiting the food shelf. Last month's distribution had 52 families in attendance.
In order to attempt to meet this need, an increase in the amount of staples we provide in necessary. The staples which the food shelf uses to prepack bags for its patrons are: Spaghetti Sauce, Pasta, Mac & Cheese, Tuna, Soup, Peanut Butter, Vegetables, Fruit and Baked Beans.
I have volunteered the United Church of Underhill assist with providing tuna. The next time you go shopping and try to remember what it is the food shelf needs most this month it will be easy: Tuna!
The other churches in our ministry have all adopted the remaining staples. We will be switching to another staple at some point in the future. We won't always be the tuna church.
This is of course not to say that we want nothing but tuna. Any and all contributions are welcome. I can state that our local patrons will not take black beans, kidney beans or refried beans. Any food that our patrons will not take is taken to the
