Capturing Lent

The 40 days of Lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday are rich, multi-faceted, and perhaps, even a bit MYSTERIOUS. What do they mean? How might I observe them today? Is there wisdom and growth to be found? Or is LENT just a church relic from the past? This year, let’s CAPTURE LENT together:

Wednesday, February 18:  Ash Wednesday

6:30-8:30 AM:  “Ashes-to-Go” in the church parking lot. 

7:00 PM:  Worship Service at Covenant Community Church (Route 15).

“Capturing Lent” photo presentations during Sunday worship

Sunday, February 22:  Lenten Project Begins

10:30 AM:  Lenten banks distributed in worship

Wednesdays during Lent:  Adult book study: Altar in the World

6:30 – 8:00 PM on February 25, March 4, 18, and 25:  Rev. Kevin Goldenbogen will lead this four-week study of Altar in the World by Barbara Brown Taylor.  FREE!  ALL INVITED!

Wednesdays during Lent:  Lenten Soup & Scripture Series

Each week, all are invited to attend to share soup and scripture during lunchtime from 12-12:45 PM.  Call the church office at 899-1722 or check back for locations.

NEW:  Sunday, March 15 and March 22:  Compline “house church”

7:00PM:  gather at the parsonage (9 Park St) with the Goldenbogens for a short, simple, quiet service of worship.

Sunday, March 22:  One Great Hour of Sharing breakfast & Worship Service with “Mission of Peace” presentation

8:00AM – 9:45AM:  breakfast with special collection for One Great Hour of Sharing

10:30 AM:  Worship with presentation by Gretchen Wright about her recent trip to India.

Sunday, April 6:  Worship Service With Holy Communion

10:30 AM:  Easter flower sign-ups begin after worship.

 

HOLY WEEK 2015: March 29 – April 5

Sunday, March 29:  Palm/Passion Sunday

10:30 AM:  Worship service with Holy Communion, commemorating Christ’s entry into Jerusalem with special music and blessing of our Lenten Project Banks.

12:00 PM:  Church Friends bread making – All are invited to join together in the kitchen after worship to make bread to be delivered to members of the community during Holy Week.

Daily, March 30-April 3:  Morning Prayer Services

6:45 AM:  morning prayer service with continental breakfast following.  Location:  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Thursday, April 2:  Maundy Thursday

6:00 PM:  Light potluck supper with worship service.

Friday, April 3:  Good Friday

12:00 – 3:00 PM:  Ecumenical Walk.  Starting Location United Pentecostal Church in Jericho Corners.

Saturday, April 4:  Easter flowers, Confirmation Class and Easter Vigil

9:00-11:00AM:  Easter flowers accepted in sanctuary

7:00 PM:  Confirmation class will  meet in the sanctuary.

8:00 PM until 6:00 AM (Easter morning):  Sanctuary will be open for prayer, meditation, study, etc.  (Sign up for slots in fellowship room).

Sunday, April 5:  Easter Sunday

6:30 AM:  Ecumenical Sunrise Service. Location TBD.

10:30 AM:  Celebration of Christ’s Ressurection with Holy Communion.
