There are many things happening in the life of the church as we conclude some fall activities and prepare for our anniversary on Nov. 5. I encourage you to read the announcements from our ebulletin (especially re: All Saints!) and hold in prayer those who are making special preparations.
But our hearts remain aggrieved as we watch what is happening in the Holy Land. I’ll again direct us to Steve Garners-Holmes’ blog, where several of his recent poems wrestle with peace, anger, and love in the face of it. Especially poignant is a hymn text he wrote, “O Dove of Peace” (Tune: “O Danny Boy”), inspired by a photograph of a dove rising over some rubble while several children look on.
That peace would be more than aspirational. This is my prayer.
