December 20, 2023- waiting: hope, peace, joy, love

It’s almost time! There are precious few windows left to open on our Advent calendar. Whether that thought is stress-inducing, delightful, or of no consequence to us, the waiting is almost over. Are we still waiting? Do we remember what it is we’re waiting for?

The thing is, we humans tend to be able to find what it is we are looking for. If we’re looking for a reason to be mad, we’ll find it. If we go looking to count our blessings, we’ll probably come up with something, too.

At Christmas—so we believe—we receive that for which we are waiting: hope, peace, joy, love, and all of it wrapped in the demanding miracle of a child. We can receive this precious gift and think of the diapers, the sleepless nights, the inconsolable cries, the never-having-a-moment-to-oneself-again stress. Or, we can receive of God’s blessing considering the breath, the life, the possibilities, the I-am-never-alone-for-God-is-with-me promise, putting on flesh and walking around with us through the trials and joys of this life.

So what are you looking for?

May we find it, with God’s blessing, this Christmas
