Thanks, backpacks, and a press conference
I want to extend another thank you to the many UCU friends who contributed to the very meaningful memorial service and reception for Violet Hobart last Wednesday. The turnout was remarkable, if not surprising, for this beloved member of the church and community. You can read Violet’s obituary here.
As summer winds down (school starts on Monday!!), we’ll send our kids, students, and teachers into the new year with a special blessing. Bring your backpacks, briefcases, or laptop sleeves for a prayer at the children’s time this Sunday. Whether or not we’re heading back into the classroom, we’ll reflect on the things we carry with us—including the things God gives us—to navigate life in a difficult world.
A few of us from the Harvest Crossing Team are off to Rutland today (Aug. 21) to be recognized as recipients of grant funding ($500,000) through the Vermont Community Development Program. Gov. Phil Scott is holding a press conference at noon to recognize several recipients of these community development block grants. Look for a recording link to come in next week’s e-update!
See you Sunday with book bags in tow,
Pastor Jen
