Looking ahead to Holy Week

As the days lengthen and warm, our spirits are stirred to believe again the good news: life is triumphant over death.

As always, UCU and the ecumenical community are offering several chances to commemorate the high and low moments of Jesus’s last week in Jerusalem. See the descriptions below (also on our website events list and calendar) and consider joining an event you haven’t been to (or been to in a while).

Sunday, April 13 - Palm & Passion Sunday. Worship @ 10:00 am at UCU (in person and YouTube Live)

Monday, April 14–Friday, April 18 6:45 am-7:15 am. Morning devotions at Good Shepherd Lutheran. Each day, clergy from the area will offer a brief (15-minute) devotional time for centering. A  continental breakfast and fellowship time will follow. Pastor Jen will offer a parallel children’s devotion each day (PreK-elementary), and she and the children will lead the Friday morning devotion.

Thursday, April 17, 7:00 pm. Maundy Thursday service. UCU will host a contemplative evening service, reflecting on Jesus’s last moments with his disciples. Other churches may join us. Online connections TBD.

Friday, April 18, 12:30 pm. Ecumenical Good Friday Walk. This annual pilgrimage invites us to remember Christ’s suffering and death with contemplation and connection to our neighbors. Clergy from several congregations will lead brief reflections along the way, this year drawing from the text of Psalm 22. The walk begins at St. Thomas Church in Underhill Center and proceeds down River Road and into Underhill Flats, stopping at the covered bridge, the United Church of Underhill, Calvary Episcopal, and concluding at Catalyst on Raceway.  In order to leave room at St. Thomas' parking lot for their 3:00 pm mass, please arrange to be dropped off at the church, or carpool and use the lot at Moore Park.

Sunday, April 20, 6:15 am. Easter Sunrise Service at Catalyst Church. Come and witness the sun rise over Mount Mansfield as we proclaim that Christ is Risen! Catalyst with clergy from area churches will host a brief (20-30 minute) service followed by a continental breakfast indoors.

Sunday, April 20, Easter Sunday service & egg hunt. Worship @ 10:00 am at UCU (in person and YouTube Live). Children are invited to stay in the worship service as we celebrate Jesus’s resurrection together. Following the service, the Ministry in Christian Education will host an egg hunt. RSVPs helpful but not required: mice@ucu.church.
