Our second session in the “Future is Federated” series will be held this evening at 7:00 pm over Zoom. This week, the focus will be on the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights within The United Methodist Church, including the 2016 action of non-conformity by the New England Conference, the events of the 2019 special General Conference, and the possible (likely?) schism in the denomination in the coming years. Rev. Dr. Becca Girrell of the recently merged United Community Church of Morrisville will present.

Materials from last week’s session, which compared and contrasted UMC and UCC polity (church governance) are available on our website. The third week (Feb. 16) will explore the benefits and challenges of the federated model more deeply, including its potential for future ecumenical church life. We’ll also have a chance to hear from Peter Mitchell about what the uniting process was like within our congregation when we merged nearly 50 years ago. Speaking of which, who’s ready to plan an anniversary?

I hope you’ll join us for one or more of these sessions.
