As I wrap up some time away on clergy retreat, I direct you toward another poem from Steve Garnaas-Holmes. On Sunday, we’ll read the two stories of Hagar, maidservant of Sarah and Abraham, who is ultimately cast out from the family. Steve’s verses invite us to reflect on the Hagar “wandering in the wilderness of our hearts.” Whether we have been the ones cast out or the ones doing the casting, on Sunday we’ll recall our need for deliverance, and pray that it would be so.
